October 19, 2017, 9:30 AM to 4 PM @ Berkley First UMC

“Gearing Ministry for Your Mission Field” with Beth Ann Estock

Where are all the young people and why aren’t they in our churches? We will explore several cultural shifts that have significant implications for ministry in the 21st century as well as look at examples of innovative churches springing up all over the country. Then we will have an opportunity to work in teams to develop experiments to reach folks in our current mission field.

Beth is a coach and consultant at Epicenter Group specializing in the NONE and DONE zones of the USA. Beth was raised on the shores of Lake Erie in Northeast Ohio. Her pastoral work began in the Atlanta area but shifted to the Pacific Northwest two decades ago. During her Oregon years, Beth has served as a pastor in conventional churches as well as house churches and served as Director of New Faith Communities for the Oregon-Idaho Conference of The United Methodist Church.

Beth coaches leaders and churches with a no-nonsense approach to facing the current cultural realities while also seeking faithfulness to Christian faith traditions. Her approach is steeped in contemplative practices that help to give shape to innovation.

Beth and Paul Nixon co-authored Weird Church: Welcome to the 21st Century, a ground-breaking book on the future of American Christianity.

“Building Worship Bridges” with Cathy Townley

In this seminar based on Cathy’s new book, Building Worship Bridges: Worship to Accelerate Neighborhood Connections,  you’ll learn the technical side of worship service development (competent) and the adaptive, relational side (compelling).
