Important: This training is also for leaders in your church that have adopted the Detroit Conference Protection Policy Training to abide by YOUR local church protection policy.
How did this protection policy come about?
The 1996 General Conference of the United Methodist Church approved a resolution that called upon local churches and annual conferences to institute policies and procedures to reduce the risk of child sexual abuse in our church and church related activities. The goal is to maintain a safe, secure, loving place where children, youth and vulnerable adults where those who care for them may administer to their needs in responsible ways.
Our Commitment to our Baptism Vows
Through Baptism we renounce the spiritual forces of wickedness and reject evil powers of this world. We will surround all vulnerable persons, God’s children & youth with a community of love that they may grow in their trust of God. The faith community of the church lays the foundation for them to grow to be disciples of Jesus Christ. The occurrence of abuse or neglect within the household of God breaks this covenant. Sadly, abuse or neglect remains a reality in today’s society.
The following trainings are free and available for all adults and youth over 16 years old:
