The Michigan Area United Methodist Church Historical Society (MAUMCHS) has been about the ministry of publishing and distributing histories of Michigan United Methodism and its predecessor denominations for a number of years.
On Saturday, April 22, a United Methodist History Convocation is planned at Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant. The theme is “Roots and Branches – 2017” and will include an overview of the history of the United Methodist Church and a workshop by both of our conference archivists – Rebecca McNitt (Adrian College) and Justin Seidler (Albion College) – sharing about their work and how the Archives can help the local church historian. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Chris Momany from Adrian College speaking on “The Art of Hearing to Speech” – helping past voices come alive.
As part of this convocation, certificates will be presented to those churches that are celebrating anniversaries of 175 years and higher. In following years we will recognize the anniversaries from 100 years and up in 25 year increments – 100, 125, 150, 175, 200. Those churches 175 years or older will need to notify MAUMCHS by April 1 in order for certificates to be prepared. (Contact Diana Miller at firstname.lastname@example.org or call her at 989-426-2644 with questions.) Hopefully a representative of each church being recognized will be able to attend the convocation.
